Affordable Rug Shopping, Spiritual Guide Commissions & Your Weekend Soundtrack.

Rugs really bother me. Maybe it’s the mother of young boys in me (not to mention the filthy but cute dog) but I can’t for the life of me justify spending thousands of dollars on something that is going to get trashed. And yet your home is not complete without one.

There is a dazzling range out there and I do think, that second after art, you should think about rugs. It will help set the tone of a room and allow you to see how it will evolve. See image above as the example by Thomas Hamel.

So if you are looking for a new low cost and low maintenance rug, here is where you should start:

  1. Miss Amara

  2. West Elm

  3. IKEA

  4. Armadillo

  5. Freedom

These names probably won’t shock you and you will definitely be already aware of the stock they carry. But I think it’s valuable to know that when you shop there for your rugs, I won’t judge you. And when you balance your low cost rug with show stopping art, an epic sofa, some stunning lighting and great window treatments everyone will be impressed with your ability to mix and high and low.

Art is and always has been a huge influential part of my life and so I’ve decided to start a deep dive series on a few artists who have influenced me and shaped my understanding of the design and ways of seeing the world. It’s too much for the newsletters so I’ll add them to the blog and link it in here for you to check out.

First in the series is a look into the Swedish artist Hilma af Klint. A trailblazer in abstract art, predating the likes of Wassily Kandinsky, Kazimir Malevich, and Piet Mondrian you might have seen some of her work before. But did you know that her most well known body of work was based on a ‘commission’ she received from the spirit guide Amaliel?

A little intense? Yes.

But also, a female artist in the early 1900’s producing abstract work years ahead of her better-known male contemporaries. You bet ya. Equal parts female empowerment and mysticism mixed with a groundbreaking use of shape, line and colour.

This playlist is brilliant as a weekend soundtrack and will have your channelling Nancy Myers movie set homes immediately.

Thanks for reading.

p.s Thank you for subscribing. I’m so grateful you are here. If you have any feedback just hit reply and let me know what you think.

p.p.s If you like what you read and think others might too, I’d love you forever if you would hit that forward button and share the love. I always try to make them long enough to be interesting, actionable and valuable but short enough so you don’t get overwhelmed. Hopefully I’m hitting the mark.
